March 2009, The Colour Story featuring Simon Hart and Martin Roberts.
Gallery LeFort welcomes two new and exciting artists Simon
Hart MA(RCA) and Martin Roberts BA to feature in our
Spring Show THE COLOUR STORY- a two man Exhibition.
Simon achieved a BA (Hons) at Staffordshire Univeristy before
completing an MA at the Royal College of Art in 1993. After graduating
he began exibiting his work in galleries and Art Fairs and was
quickly spotted by the 'Art Group', a major contemporary art publishing
company who created prints of his work which have sold worldwide
and feature in major stores such as Habitat and Ikea. The subject
matter of his work has mainly focused on his love of fishing villages
and harbours in Cornwall and the work of the St. Ives school of
artists in particular can be seen as a major influence in his
compositions.
Martin Roberts BA (Hons) trained at the Slade School of
Art under William Coldstream, Patrick George and Euan Uglow whose
influence on his work remains profound but not restrictive. On
leaving the Slade he was awarded a Boise travelling scholarship
and spent a year painting in Southern Spain, upon his return Cale
Art in London held a one man show. He has since gone on to exhibit
both in this country and abroad. Martin paints from a variety
of subjects, mainly landscape, the figure and still life. His
paintings are the result of many hours of careful looking and
noticing and in particular, colour relationships are analysed
with great care.
Private View Saturday, March 28 6.00 -8.00pm for
private view invitations please contact the Gallery.
Paintings from this Exhibition can be viewed on the Exhibition
site from March 28th onwards.

South
West Wine Merchant of the Year

Great
Western Wine received the best possible 25th Birthday present
when, at the annual Wine Oscars in London in September, they were
crowned best in the south west by a panel of their peers and journalists.
They were also shortlisted amongst the top few independent merchants
in the country!
There were trophies too for a number of their individual wines
including Ben Glaetzers Anaperenna, and Viña Falernia
in Chiles magical Elqui Valley, who scooped the Champion
Great Value Red award for their Carmenère Reserve.
All this in a year when they have also been awarded the all important
Investors in People accreditation.
Its been a fun 25 years and a particularly exciting 08 so
far and they all hope that, with your continued support, they
can continue to seek out more top wines for another 25!

OLeary
Walker Wine Tasting......
David OLeary from the renowned Australian wine producer
OLeary Walker will be here at the Tasting Room on
the evening of Friday 8th February.
Based at Leasingham in the Clare Valley, O'Leary Walker is a relatively
new winery on the scene which has rapidly gained a reputation
for producing award winning regional wines at affordable prices.
- this is a wonderful opportunity to meet one of the most
progressive winemakers to appear out of Oz.
O'Leary Walker Wines is the culmination of two like minded winemakers
that met over twenty years ago. Established in 2001 by David O'Leary
and Nick Walker, their philosophy is pretty simple, source the
best grapes from the best vineyard sites and craft great wine.
David graduated from Roseworthy Agricultural College in 1980.
He spent a year in Tasmania working for Heemskerk Wines before
joining Chateau Reynella in 1981. He was appointed group red winemaker
for Hardy's in 1990 and held that role until joining Mildara Blass
in 1994.
At Mildara Blass, he held senior winemaking roles at Quelltaller
Estate in the Clare Valley where he launched Annies Lane and at
Mildara's Coonawarra winery. During his time with Hardy's and
Mildara Blass, he also made wine in France and California.
David has achieved considerable in his twenty years of making
wine. A Jimmy Watson Trophy in 1988 and twice International Red
Winemaker of The Year (1992 and 1994) sit proudly along with numerous
other trophies and gold medals. Recent awards include a Trophy
for the 2006 Polish Hill River Riesling at International Wine
Challenge 2007.
We currently list a number of wines from their portfolio (click
here)but will be showing a more extensive range to taste on
the evening of Friday 8th, commencing at 5pm until 7.30pm. This
tasting is priced at £10 a ticket. So if you are interested
in meeting the winemaker and tasting his excellent range then
please contact us to book a place 01225 463 392 info@tastingroom.co.uk
