One of only four bridges in Europe to support shops, the majestic Pulteney Bridge crosses the river Avon uniting east and west Bath.
The eminent architect Robert Adam was commission by Sir William Pulteney to provide a fitting approach to the Pulteney estate, and the bridge, completed in 1770, was the impressive result.

Regular hourly boat trips up stream leave from the east bank, and reveal a seldom seen but remarkably beautiful side to Bath.
The bridge today has many small specialist shops, and a good variety of restaurants serving Italian, Thai, Indian and French cuisine.
